Honor Society Initiated

East Carolina University Engineering Honor Society holds Inaugural Initiation Event

The ECU Engineering Honor Society initiated its first members on October 26th after the Engineering program received ABET accreditation nearly one year ago and has graduated three classes since 2008.  The ECU Engineering Honor Society is open to juniors and seniors majoring in engineering.  Students ranked in the top 1/8th of the junior class and 1/5th of the senior class are eligible for selection for membership in the honor society.  Eligible students are then chosen for initiation based on both scholarship as well as character.

The inaugural initiation event included a dinner held at CPW’s in Greenville followed by the ceremony in which initiates heard honored speaker Dr. Hayden Griffin’s many words of wisdom, pledged a code of engineering ethics, obtained their membership certificate from Chair Griffin, received congratulations from College of Technology and Computer Science Dean David White, and signed the Society roll book.  ECU Engineering faculty Dr. Evelyn Brown, Dr. Rick Williams, and Stephanie Sullivan planned the event and will serve as advisors to the initiates.  The inaugural student initiates of the ECU Engineering Honor Society are:

Zachary Michael Anderson
Eric William Franson
Emily Claire Huneycutt
William Eugene James
Richard Adam O’Connor
Leandro John Rodriguez-Mixon
Jason Alexander Ross

Steven Joshua Carr
John Frank Feher
Jonathan Louis Martin
Jason Richard McCarter
Victoria Lyn Miller
Scott William Reed
Clinton Lee Reges
Anna Elizabeth Smith

The creed of the ECU Engineering Honor Society is “integrity and excellence in engineering.”  These student initiates and eventual graduates are now charged to hold just that as they continue their studies and soon embark on their engineering careers.
